What do you know about Calis Beach-Area?
Calis Beach meaning ‘Work Beach’ is one of the most popular tourist areas of Fethiye. With its 4 km long shingle beach and is home to the most stunning sunsets. Along the pedestrianized promenade you willl find all the bars and restaurants, serving superb Turkish cuisine and international favorite’s. Night life in Calis beach can get a lıttle crowded. Instead of going to Fethiye, people prefer to spend the night in Calis beach as there are plenty of bars, pubs and a few nightclubs.
Beside regular minibuses (dolmus) which goes to Fethiye center, you can also get there via Water Taxis. And if the weather is right, it’s the only way to travel to Fethiye centre. The water taxis run every half an hour and take about 20-30 minutes to cross the bay from Calis. A one way trip is 13TL.
There is a small natural park full of different birds called “bird heaven”. There is also a new park that opened in 2018 called Sehit Fethiye Bey Park and is well worth a visit. The most important and significant area in Calis is the giant, friendly turtles, Carretta Carretta. Calis beach is one of their nesting beaches. Every year they come to the protected site to leave their eggs.
Further along the seafront is Koca Calis, a much quieter and peaceful area where the winds keep you cool in hot summer days and nights. The wind also makes the area one of the most popular windsurfing and kite surfing areas, just wonderful to watch. There is a school for windsurfing and kite surfing ıf you wanted to give it a try. The local Dolmus from Fethiye will drop you there.
Calis is very up and coming and is proving to be a popular area for those wishing to purchase a property either for permanent living or as a rental investment. İt is close to all amenities, ie. Hospitals, banks, supermarkets and there is also a local market every Sunday.
During the winter months many events are organized for the ex pat community living here. Many of the bars and restaurants are open providing entertainment to suit all tastes, jazz bands, rock bands and quiz nights to name a few. Every year there is a Christmas Fair, Father Christmas comes and the little Turkish children love to come and join in all the fun and to sing carols.
